Aramaic to Arabic Transliteration

Posted by: Sepehr Mohamadi in: ● November 22, 2008

As I have seen that, there is  a big demand on reading Aramaic Peshitta Bible or other Syrian resources for Arabic and Persian speaking people, I am suggesting a table for Transliterating Aramain-Syrian letters in Arabic or Persian Letters.

The following table is my proposition as the Aramaic to Arabic Transliteration

Also a PDF Version of this Translitration is available.

Please see the following as a sample:

Luke 11:47
Original Aramaic Text: ܘܝ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܒܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܩܒܪܐ ܕܢܒܝܐ ܕܐܒܗܝܟܘܢ ܩܛܠܘ ܐܢܘܢ
Transliterated Text: وي لكون دبنين انتون قبرا دنبيا دابهيكون قطلو انون
Arabic Van Dyck Translation: ويل لكم لانكم تبنون قبور الانبياء وآباؤكم قتلوهم

You can find the complete Peshitta New Testament Transliterated to Arabic Here.

Please let me know any feedback that you may have.

Mr. Mohamadi,

The transliteration is a very clever idea. Anyone that speaks or knows arabic can get an excellent idea/feeling of the aramaic language by reading the transliteration. This transliteration available on your website is an excellent resource for comparing translations also. I highly commend you for your work and your decision to post this material on the web. Much obliged and many thanks!

Wow! That’s a great idea! Making the three thousands old culture and literature of the Middle East accessible to all modern peoples of the region. The implications will be profound. Keep up the good job.

Mr Mohamadi, it is a great job!
But would you write the Arabic transliteration in full vowel marking? thank you

I don’t plan to do that yet!
Maybe in the future.
